The Tualatin Mountains

West Hills is often referred to as the Tualatin Mountains even though it's more like rolling hills. This small range on the western border of Multnomah County and a spur of the Northern Oregon Coast Range, the Tualatin Mountains separate the basin of Washington County from the Portland basin of Western Multnomah County and Clark County. Its highest peak is Dixie Mountain at 1609 feet followed closely by Cornell Mountain at 1270 feet and Council Crest at 1073 feet.

Despite the steep slopes and rocky terrain, many residences have been built in amongst the trees and hillside. A lot of the northern portion of the mountains are undeveloped land including the 5000 acre Forest Park. The landscape inside and around the park has been predominantly forested.
